In the words of the late American stage, film and television actress Mary Tyler Moore, “Pain nourishes courage. You can’t be brave if you’ve only had wonderful things happen to you”
It is through her adversity, and life’s unforeseen challenges that founder of Nkanyezi Tuition Centre, Sbonga Zungu was inspired and encouraged to embark on this journey of creating a safe space, and a place of hope not only for children and their parents/guardians, but for the nurturing or talents and potential. Amid her son’s diagnosis with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in 2012 ,Ms Zungu, and her husband struggled to secure a school that would accommodate their 5-year-old son at the time. The intention was to locate an institution that would embrace Nkanyezi’s unique innate talents, encourage his creativity, while supporting his mental and physical development. Customized attention has always been a crucial need to ensure that their son is afforded a conducive place of learning, and mental growth while the focus on the child’s ‘learning-speed’ also forms part of the objective.
Being able to find a suitable school can be a tedious process, which in turn could discourage some parents. Through the birth of Nkanyezi Tuition Centre, Ms Zungu hopes to assist other parents who may have had similar journey or a lonely pathway through finding a school for their child.
